Such is our addiction to fossil fuels, every pound we spend means that finite fossil fuels are burnt. We even depend on fossil fuels to pump cold water to our taps! As we burn them up with all our consumption - wasteful like HS2, trams, WMD, Trident, warfare, new Britannia ship and the necessary spending like future-proofing our homes against a rapidly warming world - it releases greenhouse gases that are changing the chemical composition of the atmosphere to give us the runaway greenhouse effect to threaten all life on earth. Look up venus on Wikipedia!
I am very worried for all you youngsters and the world old crocks like me are leaving you. I'm sorry!
HS2 is an extravagant luxury that is burying yet more of nature under concrete, brick and tarmac. Yet, WE ourselves are part of nature! We need land and nature to grow our food, to store water, to absorb CO2 with more forest planting. HS2 makes all our problems even worse and we are still destroying the 120 Kms Black Country Railway. We live in a mad, mad world. I'm glad I'm old.
Now, for a cycle ride - NOT the car!!
