You keep your working gas boiler, as we have done, and install instant electric water heaters (x2) to soak up some of the elecy we generate or have to import in the early hours of the morning in the winter, only. The shower/bath hot water is now brilliant. Wish we had done it years ago! Put the instant water heater as near as possible to the outflow; ie, behind the shower, ideally. We chose Steibel Eltron heaters.
No more gas central heating, either! We use local heating to heat ourselves in the room we sit in. Infrared heater panels from Herschel work very well. But you do have to wrap up warmer - but that's no problem - both the house and yourself!
