4 hours. Yesterday, from the Lea south of Pontesbury. Taking in public highways from road to narrow muddy footpaths and bridleways.
MY ROUTE: Shorthill, Sibberscote Manor, Plealey, The Radleth, Oaks Wood, Oaks hamlet at 222 m, Plealey, Halston, Hinton, Lea.
Steep-sided valleys, flat flood plain, waymarking post lying flat in the mud. I must resite it vertically at the junction of the footpath and bridleway between Oaks and Oaks Wood. This was the start of having to carry Chrissie's Brompton a good long-distance - 150 m. I had about half an hour 'sleeping' in a warm spot in the sun underneath Earls Hill whose trig point I could clearly see. Then I met the mud across the whole width - for a rude awakening!
Great views from Oaks to The Lawley, Caer Caradoc and Long Mynd when every stitch of clothing had to go back on for the fast, cold descent in dropping temperatures.
A few minutes fast descent with 'peep peep' white van man stuck behind me until I waved him on to pass me at Halston Cottages.
