I revere the JC of the Gospels but His Way has only been glimpsed in British history, very occasionally

I find it quite astonishing that our mighty monarchs, down the centuries and starting with the wicked and very nasty Henry the 8th, were all Defenders of the Faith!  And, from their coronation oaths, they were all meant to act on the living oracles of God that is the Bible.  More successfully, it seems with upholding the values of the monarchs of the Old Testament than that of King Jesus of the unworldly and other worldly, glorious Gospels.  OT-like kings that meant that one translation of the Bible* substituted king with 'tyrant' - not surprisingly.  And so our monarchs' ungodly behaviour has gone on down the centuries.  In the last two hundred years, it is their ministers of State who have upheld coercion over constraint and ignored the agape love of Christ Jesus.

It was loaded with provocative, antimonarchy marginal notes, however, and it consistently translated “king” as “tyrant” (which made it understandably popular in the American colonies).   From https://www.vision.org/bible-and-british-throne-366

The coronation oath: “Our gracious Queen: To keep your Majesty ever mindful of the Law and the Gospel of God as the Rule for the whole life and government of Christian princes, we present you with this Book, the most valuable thing that this world affords. Here is Wisdom; this is the Royal Law; these are the lively Oracles of God.”
