This amazing Anglican Bishop is also not a pressure group, BUT ... !

Dear Jo - lovely to hear from you

You wrote to me, twelve days ago, thus:

"we are a lively and well-respected registered education charity (not a pressure group though it must be emphasised) as you know from some of the events you have attended as a guest."

The issues I have raised are of such serious consequence that I really do feel if individuals are unable to speak out, then they are implicated in the scandal I've uncovered, by their guilty silence.  Please take a leaf out of the copy book of this courageous Anglican Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde, Jo - if only by acting as a private individual (outside of Lunar), as I do.

Even a well-respected, registered education charity, occasionally may need educating:- viz a ready-built, principal mainline railway, especially useful in bypassing rail congested Brum, is best not converted to cycle-walkway, tramway, test track and fresh air!

Bishop Mariann speaks directly to Donald Trump to wind up her thoughts.  A courageous woman - in speaking the mind of Christ, in my view and, telling dear Donald some home truths in a gracious way.

With every good wish and thanks for all your wonderful work with the Lunar Society.

to Peter of the Lunar Society

Dear Peter

Thanks so much for this detailed and thoughtful response that I have read and re-read.

I would ask if the members of the LSCCWP might consider these points, please from the W Midlands Climate Coalition:
I do think that however worthy our/your discussions are, if nothing is ever presented to our local and regional decision makers, then it simply amounts to a lot of pointless hot air.  I fear, Climate compliant advice is never presented to them (I do it!) and time ticks by with things only getting worse - exactly as we are seeing.  A tragedy.  We fail our descendants and are bad, thoughtless, greedy ancestors.

Six lost years since the authorities Declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 - but nothing is ever done!  Indeed, the obvious, WRONG things are still being done.  Tragic.  Scarey, in fact.

Very best wishes for your concern and action on behalf of all of us - members or, in my case, guests at the excellent Lunar Society public meetings.

Be safe, free and rich by ...

 ... pleading, arguing, pleasantly and persuasively for the W Mids Climate Coalition Action Points, as here:

action points

Thus, NO risk of Police action;

You keep out of prison;

and NO fines, so you keep rich!

IN BRIEF: No more tramways to replace TRAINS that need to go back on wasted, existing railway lines.

Ask for better buses, Fare-Free Public Transport for all and not just the OAPs like me.

Keep existing buses directly on roads (without the railway tracks) and don't boost greenhouse gas emissions by using trams that they call "buses on rails" at the most outrageous, immoral expense.

Use that money and the staff to insulate the homes of the poorest and to provide homes that are solar-powered, energy efficient and, above all, are comfortable and healthy.

This is going for green growth or sensible, sustainable economic growth.

UN ON CLIMATE BREAKDOWN

 https://www.un.org/en/climatechange/what-is-climate-change  gives:

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.

Burning fossil fuels generates greenhouse gas emissions that act like a blanket wrapped around the Earth, trapping the sun’s heat and raising temperatures.

The main greenhouse gases that are causing climate change include carbon dioxide and methane. These come from using gasoline for driving a car or coal for heating a building, for example. Clearing land and cutting down forests can also release carbon dioxide. Agriculture, oil and gas operations are major sources of methane emissions. Energy, industry, transport, buildings, agriculture and land use are among the main sectors causing greenhouse gases.
