Hi Chris
It was great to hear from you. Thanks for the invitation to join you on Monday 24 March that I'm much looking forward to. I met John Grimshaw last century at a meeting in Brum and asked him to give top priority to the existing but much neglected cycle-walkways and towpaths.
If you wish to invite Cycling UK's Head of Campaign, Duncan Dollimore, his address is duncan.dollimore@cyclinguk. org He hears from me from time to time but I've been disappointed every time. I'm wanting to write again asking for Laura Laker's address to see if she might be more interested.
I will make the point to Duncan and Laura that our major cycle-walkway on two disused railway lines might well be even earlier than the Bristol to Bath one on only one railway! David Cox, when he cycled ours on the Saturday after you and I cycled it last August, noticed in Dudley's section, the half buried wooden edging boards to the old path that was really old but still visible in places after all the decades. Ours must be the first and has been unmaintained ever since in Dudley. The epitomy of negligence by our council!
Fighting the £6.1 BILLION tram extension programme to 2032 is essential, I think. The expansion is unnecessary, immoral and the money would be better spent on helping more passengers to travel for free and, of course, for our Black Country Active Travel Route. Quite apart from tram extensions worsening the Climate Emergency and quickening the pace to even faster warming.
FROM the Midland Metro Alliance information sheet:
"Beccy Marston has been appointed as Active Travel Commissioner, bringing her 17 years of experience working with communities, councils, charities and private sector organisations on initiatives to encourage more people to cycle and walk."
