£ spent = lb weight of greenhouse gas emissions is a very rough rule of thumb but helpful to help prioritise expenditure in CUTTING greenhouse gas emissions.
More different modes of transport means more changes in the public transport journey means more delays in having to wait to change modes.
Keep it simple to the two main ones - bus and train.
Get them up to scratch and give everyone Fare-free Public Transport- not just for old crocks like me on our way out.
Stop the continuing idiocy of using trams to get trains back on on our W Midlands wasted, unused existing railway lines!
Put TRAINS on railway lines instead of everything but the kitchen sink, and certainly not very nice trams at well over £100m/Km Metro trams.
One transport consultant found that UK tram construction is 3 times more expensive to build per Km than any other tram scheme in the world!!
In the W Midlands, since at least September 2000, we have to get Metro trams as the catalyst for trains reinstated on urban railway lines not yet destroyed or spoilt.
I got a letter dated September 2000 from Tom Magrath, Passenger Services Director, Centro (now TfWM) saying:
"Light rail investment provides the basis for restoring heavy rail services at the appropriate time."
Have you ever heard of anything more absurd than this?
No wonder we're all going down the pan!
For 40 years, only I and a wonderful train driver called Dave Parsons, have been fighting this brainless nonsense from our fully trained transport 'experts'.
2 of us versus the rest of you have got absolutely nowhere. But its been great fun pointing out the bleeding obvious!
