Since the 1990s, I remain researching and writing about the destruction of the West Midlands transport infrastructure - roads, trams and railways; the rebuilding of the tramway network on two mainline railways and, on the conversion/duplication of bus routes into tramways. Many hundreds of millions of pounds wasted that should have gone into giving us a world class and totally free public transport system in the region to reduce traffic congestion and pollution and to act on the decades old Climate Catastrophe that is slowly unfolding. Instead, the Climate Emergency was accelerated by the right charlies in charge in Brum city centre over the fifty years I've lived and worked here.
However, I think, the biggest finance/transport scandal in the history of the UK is the business and responsibility of all of us. Councillors and MPs, in particular, decided that vast sums of taxpayers' money must be used to destroy the first tram network in the 1950s. This was followed by the complete destruction of much of the railway network in the ensuing decades. Next, to cap it all, only 20 years after destroying the first tram network to get smelly diesel buses, you all decided to rebuild the tram network - but, on the two mainline railways that were unused and not yet obliterated!! What utter absurdity, that is still going on to this day!
All of this tragedy, this farce, is not helped by councillors and MPs pigeon-holing themselves into their narrow wards, constituencies and interests and not allowing themselves to see the wider picture or even to take an interest in what is going on all around them or, to query the truly peculiar decisions of their fellow councillors! Truly idiotic decisions like the ones above that they do have to vote on in full council but will do so without getting themselves acquainted with what their colleagues are up to. Politicians who are far too trusting over what the full-time officers want, so nod everything through. It is called tunnel vision. It is not my subject, so I cannot possibly say anything. I must not tread on anyone's toes. The professionals must know what they are advising us about, so let's just nod it through. No way!
It is truly an Alice in Wonderland state of being!
Are our Councillors and the Combined Authority complicity in a Western Head of State being charged with war crimes?
Last week, the Prime Minister and the former Defence Minister of our firm friend and ally, Israel were charged with war crimes, denying the entrance of food and medical/humanitarian supplies and using the starvation of civilians as a weapon of war, with arrest warrants being issued for both men.
How is the WMCA upholding our Western rules based international order by distancing itself from involvement in facilitating and possibly subsidising the drones and other military goods going to Israel?
In recent weeks, my enquiries via FoI requests have failed to elicit a response with truthful and accurate information over what is our WMCA involvement in Israel's war on Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. This information is even more important now that arrest warrants have been issued on dear Bibi and his former Defence Minister, Mr Gallant.
