Elected members are uninterested, uncaring and uninformed
Dear Richard, Chris and Bob
Elected members are uninterested, uncaring and uninformed
I would love you to join me in highlighting how democracy is failing and that we need to concentrate on trying to get the present people fired up, concerned and active.
We have also had new, very well staffed organisations: the WMCA, and Midlands Connect, that have arisen over the last few years. This means the most enormous salary bill that we are all footing the bill for. Extraordinary!
Climate ecocide and shortages of fossil fuels and other resources like critical minerals are continuing as we bow to the foolish cry for economic growth/greed to solve all our problems. Thus, we have:
- About 100 Kms of West Midlands railway lines bulldozed and built on.
- Seven railway lines now destroyed in my own Dudley borough.
- Constant building, demolition and rebuilding with the numbers of tower cranes in double figures, I guess.
- When homes are built, they are still not being built to high energy efficient standards. Not even passive solar heating, let alone active solar.
- Last decade, two councillors at the Cradley community forum when I tried to get them to understand that our very own Black Country Railway was being destroyed and broken up into three different rail modes, told me that that was something councillors did not cover and redirected me to talk to Transport for W Midlands!
- When I spoke to our very own dear Jules at our demo outside Wolverhampton Civic Centre, he did not know that 16 Summer Lane was the regional HQ of Transport and the WMCA (and Tram UK!). But he was critical of what I was doing!
- Our top officials and our elected members and MPs declare climate emergencies but then do nothing, apart from business as usual to rack up all our problems.
- Since September 2001, we have had 'The Exchange' at Centenary Square being quite relaxed about their magnificent Grade 2 listed front doors being open throughout the day to let the warm air out and the cold air in. A most colossal energy bill for them - the University of Brum, no less - and yet another example of climate ecocidal behaviour for a grim future.
- The UK's major, urban-rural-urban, 22 Kms cycle-walkway is a mudway over some of its length and unsatisfactory over its entire length when compared with the 20 miles of the Gryffe Cycle-Walkway, west of Glasgow.
- My own MP is not interested in anything, it seems and does not think anything is going wrong. He is the epitomy of negligence, of acquiescence, of apathy and collusion with whatever the authorities want.
Never, ever by anyone, a spark of interest to check, challenge and question!

Therefore, upgrade/finish the UK's major 22 Kms Black Country Cycle-Walk Mudway!
The committee considered a motion submitted the Vice-Chair, Councillor Worrall on 27 May 2020.
“West Midlands Transport Delivery Committee welcomes the Government’s announcement of £2 billion national funding for the urgent provision of cycle and walking routes (of which £250m in the current financial year), which is to be spent on main corridors for work journeys to and from major centres of employment.
The TDC expresses its full support and encouragement to TfWM officers working to achieve this in partnership with District Council colleagues, and others, such as the Canals and Rivers Trust, Network Rail, Sustrans, Cycling UK, and other cycling, disability and community organisations.
The TDC further notes Cllr. Worrall’s report, appended to this Notice of Motion, and asks all concerned to do whatever they can to achieve an early, fit-for-purpose, well used, permanent, strategic network of cycling and walking routes to serve the whole of the West Midlands, both for work and recreational purposes.”
Resolved : That the motion be supported.

MISSPENDING SCANDAL ON A MASSIVE SCALE!
Hundreds of millions of our money is being wasted to
- break up (destroy) the half-finished, 120 Kms Black Country Railway "of national strategic significance" between Worcester and Derby into both tramway and a regional railway;
- to turn the whole of the nearest thing that Merry Hill Shopping Centre has to a wildlife site and public open space into a double-track railway/tram viaduct.
- This, alongside the premier 'Dudley No 1 Canal'.
- Over half a BILLION pounds to still leave 47 Kms with NOTHING but fresh air!

BRUM IS THE IMPORTANT ONE NOT THE BLACK COUNTRY that does not deserve a railway only a piddling little shuttle tramline!
YOU ASK: "However do you think passenger numbers would be low with this big 'central place' missed out. So would the gain be more for freight?"
BRUM IS THE IMPORTANT ONE NOT THE BLACK COUNTRY that does not deserve a railway, only a piddling little shuttle tramline!
- Our Black Country is not so small and insignificant that it is not allowed to have half a billion pounds of Metro trams!
- Brum is very big but so is the Black Country. Each has about 1 mill population.
- Our Black Country is as congested and polluted as Brum
- Dudley has already destroyed SIX of its railway lines! The 120 Kms Black Country (Bypass Brum) Railway is the seventh and last!
- OUR railway is already built and runs underneath congested M6 at Jct 9 Wednesbury.
- Every bridge, tunnel, underpass and flyover is already built.
- 'Grand Central Diesel Perfumed Underground Station Tucked Away In The Basement Of The Closed John Lewis Store' is so congested with train services that they need some train services to go through the four Black Country boroughs instead!
- This had been known about for decades when railway passengers numbers were doubling over 25 years to 2020!
- There are plenty of train services to the east of Brum but only one between the W coast of the UK and Brum! That one is Crewe, Shrewsbury, Hereford line.
- They want freight and passenger trains back but think trams must be put on first!
- OUR railway is "of national strategic significance".

Two Scandals to get your teeth into!
Equality with elders like me for the poor discriminated young and middle-aged who are denied the regional Fare-Free Public Transport I have enjoyed for 13 years!
Stop destroying railways in the Black Country, only to build HS lines in Brum and Solihull on the E side that is already well endowed with railway lines, unlike the Black Country that has had them built on!

Don and Roy Richardson built my favourite shopping centre. However, they forgot to link the monorail with the 120 Kms Black Country Railway "of national strategic significance" for trains to Stourbridge/Worcs to the S and trains N to Dudley, Walsall and Derby! Can you help, please Paul? Tim

"As compensation/reward for doing the right thing in using the bus, train and tram, the concessionary Fare Free Public Transport (FFPT) that many have had since they were 60 years old, must be extended to everyone.

THIS LAND IS OUR LAND AND THIS RAILWAY IS OUR RAILWAY
1. Extend the Metro trams over more than 6 Kms, a longer test track and, linear woodland (vital to sequester CO2), plus cycle-walkway to finish the 120 Kms ("of national strategic significance") railway on the 50 Kms without the "bus on rails" trams on 6 Kms.
or,
2. Passenger trains returned to finish the 120 Kms ("of national strategic significance") railway on the 50 Kms without the "bus on rails" trams on 6 Kms.

Jon Weller's comment on article in Guardian on 20 May 202
Thanks for this. We must learn from this crisis over the complacency leading to an absence of planning and preparedness. Yet we knew in December and knew of widespread global travel that the virus would spread. The Really Big Crisis is climate that we have known about since the 1980s. Actually, about fossil fuel burning enhancing the natural greenhouse effect for the last 150 years. YET NOTHING IS CHANGING APART FROM THE CLIMATE!!
120 Kms Worcester, Black Country, Derby Railway finished.
Upgrade our cycle-walkways to make them usable.
8 Kms Dowery Dell Trail completed between Halesowen and Longbridge.

5 Quick Questions for your answers, please!
Is this the right way to prepare for the climate crisis? Spending £449.5 m to convert our intercity railway to tram line, test track and extended cycle-walkway?
Was it wise to prepare for the climate crisis by building a £4.33 m carbon intensive concrete wall for the tram line on the site of the former 120 Kms intercity Black Country railway between Worcester and Derby?
Is the virus crisis lockdown doing more to prepare for the climate crisis than the UK's many hypocritical declarations of a climate emergency? A reduction in travel and economic activity has resulted in a drop in greenhouse gases.
Should a carbon allowance be worked out for every person or household, like the banding for council tax?
