Dear Cllr Fran - addresses to write to, please are in cc, above.
ESSENCE:
- The Cathedrals Railway (aka the Black Country Railway) can still be saved because Network Rail has said, from the 1990s, that it is NOT needed for freight trains until the 2040s at the earliest - BUT, I maintain they would have to run at night because of Metro trams on 6.7 Kms out of the wasted, unused 56 Kms between Stourbridge Jct and Burton on Trent via Lichfield. There can be NO passenger trains on the full length, however, unless they are tram trains or train trams, which means yet more expense and complication in construction and, then delay, in daily use.
- You good Worcestershire people should be up in arms that billions go to Brum and the other six councils of the W Mids, while the shires get only millions from the taxpayer for transport schemes.
- You all lose out because a vital, principal mainline railway from Worcester via Kiddi to the North is broken up into multi-modal rail modes when, in South Staffordshire, all the railway infrastructure was built to take intercity passenger and freight TRAINS! SEE my Photos folder, below.
- The wasted, broken up Cathedrals Railway is one of only two north-south railways between New St station and the Irish Sea. But it can still be more fully and sensibly used.
- The fact that it bypasses congestion bottleneck New St station makes it even more important that it be brought back into use for TRAINS (or, now, tram-trains/train-trams in the daytime)
Out of respect for your decades of honourable service, I left the bike at home in case of a puncture or mechanical trouble, and took the excellent 1320 hrs bus from Halesowen to ensure I did not miss you!
MORE DETAIL:
BILLIONS for the W Midlands Combined Authority at the expense of Worcestershire CC which gets only millions.
Black Country (Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Sandwell) transport scandal of Merry Hill Shopping Centre monorail destroyed for future tramway, now being built on the railway (featured in my photos, below of the line in Staffordshire)
Metro tram destroys grass embankment taking Dudley No 1 Canal and burying my vertical guerrilla garden from the 1990s.
Every tree and plant obliterated here!:MASSIVE COST FOR THE TOTALLY WRONG SCHEME!: Over £1 billion for 10 Kms (6 miles) when this, so far, 40 year old project is completed in the 2030s after 50 years of hard endeavour!
- dog walkers and cyclists;
- two short tramways totalling 6.7 Kms;
- brand new National Innovation Centre on the site of Dudley Railway Station - soon closed for lack of business!
- the never used 2 Kms test track for Very Light Rail trams - becoming overgrown with weeds for lack of business;
- freight trains between Port Talbot and Round Oak Steel Terminal, Brierley Hill, next to the Waterfront, next to Merry Hill SC.
Thus, HR (heavy rail), LR (light rail) and VLR (very light rail) on a former Paddington to Edinburgh railway. Three rail modes for the latest craze of Multi-Modal Mixed Up Railways at the Dept for Transport and Tram/Transport HQ at 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham.
Twenty years ago, three directors of UK Tram Ltd were senior officers in Centro (now Transport for West Midlands). Therefore, improper influence = collusion = corruption.
No wonder we are getting the UK's tram renaissance in the W Mids: Jan 2020, £15 billion announcement for 150 miles, 8 lines and 380 trams stops. Yet, UK's £3 TRILLION debt is growing every day!
PS More scandal here to add to the gaiety of the nation:
Best wishes Tim
