Buses under public control once more when, last time under public control, they replaced electric trams with diesel buses and destroyed one third of the railway network!
What is the point when it is likely to mean LESS money being available as a result? Less money because of the cost of franchising and the billions being spent on replacing and duplicating buses and trains with glitzy, glamorous trams over 150 miles in the W Midlands and unknown mileage in West Yorkshire, both by 2040. More mileage and expense coming for both Combined Authorities with their tram systems, in both price and in weight of greenhouse gas emissions, supposedly to help solve climate disaster!!
If Labour national and regional governments give us more money to bring in FARE-FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT, leading to more buses and routes as car commuters switch, then who owns the bus companies, etc is an irrelevance. But car commuters switching to buses does depend on a penalty for those who will not switch to free up road space for essential road users - like HGVs and buses ... See:
